On September 10th, the National Center for Health Statistics released a sobering report sharing suicide rates among youth ages 10 to 24 increasing by 57% during the past decade. Recent research has documented increases in serious psychological distress, major depression, and suicidal thoughts and attempts among youth. Suicide is now the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10 and 34. There is reason to believe suicide rates will increase this year due to the depth of anxiety permeating every aspect of our lives.

“Northeast Florida FCA is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Breakthroughs of North Florida in order to meet athletes and coaches where they are at during this difficult time” says NE Florida FCA Multi-Area Director, Matt Roop. “Anxiety is high in our country due to COVID, political and social unrest. Athletes, coaches, faculty and their families are certainly not immune to these stressors. Our desire is to offer practical and productive tools and steps needed for this difficult time we all are facing."
