After traveling the world with FCA, California native Roxanne Rutt felt called to join the ministry’s staff and facilitate the same kind of powerful ministry she’d experienced for herself as an athlete at Fresno State University. As a cross country runner for the Bulldogs, Rutt had surrendered her life to Christ through FCA and saw firsthand what God could do in and through groups of competitors who were committed to serving Him.
After graduating from Fresno State, Rutt traveled to Italy to participate in an FCA internship through which she learned more about the power of sports ministry. She returned to Fresno and for the next two years coached girls’ cross country at Bullard High School, interned with her local church and worked at a local running store. At the end of two years, Rutt began looking for opportunities with FCA and was offered her first position on staff as an area representative in Rochester, N.Y., helping to break new ground for the ministry and expand its reach in the Northeast region.
Rutt served 3 years on staff with FCA in Rochester before she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida with her new husband. In her current position as campus representative for Jacksonville University and University of North Florida, Rutt supports the coaches, athletes and volunteers in her area, ministers specifically to female coaches & athletes and develops and supports campus ministries. She also is responsible for setting financial and ministry plans and seeking personal spiritual growth.
“I love that FCA meets student athletes and coaches where they’re at,” Rutt said. “FCA provides an opportunity for students and coaches to explore and grow in their relationships with Jesus through authentic community and encouragement from leaders.”
Outside of FCA, Rutt enjoys line dancing, long boarding and playing in any kind of pick-up game, and she can’t help but love a big bag of Kettle chips and a pint of mint chip ice cream.
Her life verse is “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
